Weekend Projects & One Stunning Sky

My first hooked rug! (okay so I need more practice..)

It's supposed to be a sunflower in the foreground with a little red cottage, rosebush & mountains in the distance. And of course a sky with some clouds.  But it seems it's trickier than I thought to get the proper definition of shapes without having TOO much definition.  There's the art part, I suppose. :)  But what a rush to create with something that I don't have to wear grubby clothing to do!

And we baked, too!  BREAD!  With YEAST!  I couldn't believe it worked:

We used a recipe that we found online from Bread101 I think? (oh the memory skills are not what they used to be)  For the loaf we added cheese, which didn't come out as expected but was still delightful.
The texture is a little heavy, but that could be that I used slightly too much flour.  I've discovered that break baking, while an exact science to be sure, is more or less folkloric in its instructions.

"Enough" flour that it is smooth and isn't sticky
warm the liquids until they are hotish but not too hot
Let stand until dough has risen to twice the size
Test for done-ness by tapping on the bottom to see if it sounds like a hollow tree
So you see, we were up against years of inexperience with this type of thing.  When I cook I wing it.. when I bake I like detailed how-to directions.  I used to be a family joke when it came to baking.  No more!  First the soufflĂ© and now bread!  I've conquered it!  I've overcome the bad baking gene!

And one more thing from this weekend.  Well, Friday, actually:

The view from my front porch.  I love a pink sky.  The whole world looks like a dream.

Boy, you are a very quick student (learning how to hook the rug). Nice work, by the way. I too like pink skies. I am enthralled by light and how it changes. One can watch a sunset and see the subtle difference as it happens. That's why I wish I could paint---to capture that moment. But I am limited to appreciating the work of others, alas.
