Ontario Family Doctors are gatekeepers, and they do not allow many to pass.
The vast majority are not even taking on new patients, and the rest seem to continuously deny appointments with specialists, tell patients they can't have various therapies, hide the prescription pad for most medications, and many refuse to hear two complaints in one visit requiring a patient to make two or more separate appointments.
What I can glean from their behaviour is that they either enjoy or benefit from keeping their patients sick or uncomfortable for as long as possible. I almost needn't add that they get paid per visit.
This is a topic near and dear to my heart, and I am very passionate about it. I could write a long piece here in heartbreaking detail about the trials and tribulations of dozens of people I know who have tried and failed to get proper medical care in Ontario. Some of them are now deceased - and I honestly cannot say that this would be the case had they received the medical care that the world believes Canada gives to its citizens.
As we prepare for a move to France, one of the negatives that keeps coming up is the French bureaucracy. It is rumoured to be inefficient, hulking & unfriendly. Perhaps it is - but I wonder if those who label it as such have ever tried to get anything done in Ontario, Canada? Particularly Kingston. It's all relative, and I will wait and see if service can possibly be any worse in Antibes than it is here.

Very good post. I've never understood why Canadians go on and on bragging about their health care system to people around the world.
We live here, and I can tell you it's not working. In fact it's crap! People are sick and suffering, and no one is helping them. They have to travel to the US for tests when they should be done here. I've been waiting to get a female doctor for years, no one is taking new patients. There is something definitely not right in Canada and maybe we should just shut up about how 'wonderful' it is.
I wish you much luck in France, hope their system isn't as messed up as the Canadian one.
I checked in with your art site to see if you had any recent works and saw that you would not be appearing at the showing. I hope all is well. Take care of yourself.
