Oil Paint & Humidity

High Contrast Floral 1

Inspired by the enthusiasm that met the other sunflower painting, I've endeavoured another. I've been using acrylics mostly lately, but the humidity hasn't helped them stay wet. I was curious about the humidity's effect on oils. And.. they didn't stay wet either. I guess it isn't the humidity, it IS the heat.

Anyway this work is now complete but for the signature, in spite of the fact that I'd counted on being able to go back and blend some petals after a good night's sleep. (which I couldn't do, due to the paint drying).

Painting flowers comes so naturally I have to question why I beat my head against the wall with the angels. I must be true to my heart. I fear that my loyal angel collectors might be disappointed.. but as wise people have said.. "that's life." ;)

I am sure I will gravitate back to the fun little acrylics at times. How could I not? I love painting the day of the dead & angels... *sigh* but I'm built for the petals. I just am.

As I studied the wall, a line from a poem I'd read once came back to me..."The tulips are much too excitable." I recall the line as it captured that fierce red they display in certain light; it's almost too bright. It's as though their beauty is overwhelming. Your paintings are superb. I have a pass to a local garden and I always wish that I could capture the colours and the scents for those endless winter months (especially on nightshift). Photos do not do justice in the way that oils and acrylics do. They provide a depth that pictures lack. I wish you continued luck in sales. (Annoymous by Choice)
